Why sarcopenia is dangerous

Sarcopenia, the root of all diseases, now is the time to prepare in advance!

In the past, sarcopenia was considered a natural part of the aging process, but recently it has been officially listed as a disease.

* WHO (World Health Organization) ‘Sarcopenia’ disease code listing

When it comes to muscles, most people think of only skeletal muscles, such as arms and legs, but in fact, they are distributed throughout the intestines, such as the stomach and intestines, and play an important role in maintaining life.

In general, when muscle loss begins, you can see a phenomenon in which the muscle decreases rapidly rather than gradually.

Loss of muscle weakens the bones and reduces overall body function.

Even when muscle loss occurs, the risk of osteoporosis, the main cause of fracture, increases up to three to four times.

This is why the risk of fractures due to falls increases with age.

That's why sarcopenia is sometimes called secondary osteoporosis.

The direct cause of muscle loss is aging, but recently, it is also common in young office workers who have little movement such as brain labor.

If you have symptoms such as joint pain, loss of body balance, chronic fatigue, headache, lethargy, digestive disorders, back pain, etc., you should suspect sarcopenia and try to keep your muscles healthy.

Sarcopenia causes a secondary disease.

This is because muscle is involved in glucose and fat metabolism.

The sugar and fat we consume are used as energy so that they do not accumulate in the body, but when muscle loss occurs, the sugar and fat cannot be used properly and remain in the body and float in the blood.

This affects chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and metabolic syndrome, as well as cardiovascular diseases.

People with advanced sarcopenia have a 2.7 times higher risk of hypertension, 2.9 times diabetes, and 76% higher risk of cardiovascular disease than normal people.

The reason why the importance of muscles is emphasized enough to say that the muscles determine the quality of life in old age is because of the aforementioned facts.

The muscles that gradually decrease after the age of 40 remain only about half of the muscles of the 30s after the 80s.

There is still no drug that can radically treat sarcopenia.

It is most important to prevent muscle loss through proper protein intake and weight training.

1 to 1.2 g of protein per 1 kg of body weight per day is appropriate, and eat a balanced diet of animal and vegetable protein.

Furthermore, if you take together the essential amino acids leucine and isoleucine, which are other components of protein. Muscle damage is quickly restored, and lactic acid is suppressed in the blood to prevent muscle fatigue.

Keep the weight steady for 30 minutes to 2 hours without straining the joints.

Developing cardiorespiratory endurance through aerobic exercise is effective in increasing muscle strength and improving muscle fatigue.

Above all else, it is the best way to prevent muscle loss.

We hope that you will continue to prepare in advance before it is too late to keep a healthy life.
